"The Secretary noted that the United States continues to view Morocco’s Autonomy Plan as serious, credible, and realistic," said the US State Department Spokesperson in a release following talks between the Secretary of State and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad, Nasser Bourita.
During their talks, the Secretary of State and the Minister of Foreign affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad voiced "their full support for the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy Staffan de Mistura in advancing an enduring and dignified political solution" to this regional conflict.
Along the same line, the U.S. Department of State released its annual Country Reports on Human Rights Practices, on March 20, 2023, which includes, for the third consecutive year since the U.S. recognized Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces in December 2020, a single chapter on Morocco comprising its Sahara.
