Agriculture

The agricultural sector in the southern provinces is mainly based on animal production and irrigated agriculture activities largely present in the region of Guelmim Oued Noun and Dakhla Oued Eddahab.

The market gardening in greenhouses is very developed in the region of Dakhla Oued Eddahab. It is favored by good climatic conditions and the absence of diseases and pests whereby the quality of products, especially tomatoes.

In Guelmim Oued Noun, the palm tree and the growing olive tree are dominant. These two crops are located in the oases and mountain areas.

In fact, the three regions are known for their unique and high-quality local products resulting from an ancestral know-how.
Khoumassi couscous is a major product of the southern regions. The production of this couscous in Laayoune Sakia Lhamra has impressively increased from 1750 tons in 2008 to 4200 tons in 2019. 

Camel milk is another local product of the southern regions. It generates an important turnover and an undeniable added value. There are also the derivatives of camel meat (Loudek and Tichtar), as well as the prickly pear of Ait Baâmrane, and Euphorbia honey known as "Daghmous” particularly produced in the region of Guelmim Oued Noun.  

National and international demand make the local products of the southern regions a great investment opportunity.
